Questions are like magic keys that unlock knowledge! They help you learn new things, make friends, understand the world, and get what you need.

Every question starts with a special word. These are called "Question Words" or "Wh-Words" (because most of them start with "Wh"). Let's learn all about them!

The 6 Question Words

What

Use "What" to ask about things, names, or actions.

Q: What is your name?
A: My name is Sara.
Q: What do you like?
A: I like pizza.
Q: What is this?

Q: What are you doing?
A: I am reading.
Who

Use "Who" to ask about people.

Q: Who is this?
A: This is my friend.
Q: Who plays cricket?
A: My brother plays cricket.
Q: Who is your teacher?
A: Ms. Brown is my teacher.
Q: Who lives here?
A: My family lives here.
Where

Use "Where" to ask about places and locations.

Q: Where do you live?
A: I live in Delhi.
Q: Where is the park?
A: The park is near the school.
Q: Where is your bag?
A: My bag is on the table.
Q: Where are you going?
A: I am going to school.
When

Use "When" to ask about time.

Q: When is your birthday?
A: My birthday is in June.
Q: When do you eat lunch?
A: I eat lunch at 1 PM.
Q: When does school start?
A: School starts at 8 AM.
Q: When will you come?
A: I will come tomorrow.
Why

Use "Why" to ask for reasons. Answers usually start with "because".

Q: Why are you happy?
A: Because today is my birthday!
Q: Why do you like dogs?
A: Because they are friendly.
Q: Why is the sky blue?
A: Because of sunlight.
Q: Why are you late?
A: Because I missed the bus.
How

Use "How" to ask about the way something is done or how someone feels.

Q: How are you?
A: I am fine, thank you!
Q: How do you go to school?
A: I go by bus.
Q: How old are you?
A: I am 10 years old.
Q: How do you make a cake?
A: You mix flour, eggs, and sugar.
