Introduction

Where is it?

Prepositions are little words that tell us WHERE things are. They help us describe positions and locations. Without them, we couldn't say "in the house," "on the table," or "under the bed"!

Common Prepositions of Place

IN - Inside something

  • The cat is in the box.
  • I live in Delhi.
  • The book is in my bag.
  • She is in the room.
📱 ON 📚

ON - On top of a surface

  • The phone is on the table.
  • The picture is on the wall.
  • The book is on the shelf.
  • I sit on the chair.
📍 AT 🏫

AT - At a specific location or point

  • I am at school.
  • She is at the door.
  • Meet me at the station.
  • We are at home.

UNDER - Below something

  • The dog is under the table.
  • My shoes are under the bed.
  • The cat hides under the chair.

BETWEEN - In the middle of two things

  • I sit between my friends.
  • The park is between the school and the hospital.
  • The cat is between two boxes.

NEAR - Close to something

  • I live near the school.
  • The bank is near the post office.
  • Sit near me.

Direction Words

  • Go straight - Walk forward in the same direction
  • Turn left - Turn to the left side
  • Turn right - Turn to the right side
  • Next to - Beside, very close to
  • Opposite - On the other side, facing
  • Behind - At the back of
  • In front of - Before, facing

Example Directions

  • Go straight for 2 blocks.
  • Turn left at the traffic light.
  • The bank is next to the post office.
  • The park is opposite the school.
  • The hospital is behind the mall.
  • The restaurant is in front of the library.
